Birds of Prey, Devouring the Serpent

We come now to the end of this star revelation — it is both glorious and dreadful. For here we have the devouring birds of prey. What a horrible picture of divine judgment! It is too unpleasant to think about, and that is exactly what modern man wants to do with it — forget that God’s wrath exists.

What began as a promise to a woman in the Garden (see Virgo) is finally fulfilled by the Branch who came to fulfill all that was ever written about the hopes and longings for a Messiah, a Savior, a Lord, a King, a God.

In all the old atlases, this sign is seen along with the previous one (Crater) as standing on the body of the serpent (Hydra). However, Corvus has legends that are unto itself that have little to do with the original truth as given by God. In one of these myths, Apollo, in a fit of petty jealousy, immortalizes a crow that was of assistance to him. Corvus is also called the “Great Storm Bird” and is linked to Crater in one myth.

There is, in fact, a close connection between this sign and Crater because each are supplements to the truth taught by this whole Leo chapter — that the old enemy, Satan, WILL BE destroyed by King Jesus at the end of the millenial reign.

Due to the precession of the equinoxes, the bright stars of this constellation are not seen in the northern hemisphere, nor have they been since about the time of Christ. This is also true of much of the three decans of Leo. This reminds us of a sad truth, never more real than today — the judgment of God, be it against Satan or mankind, is forgotten. It’s just too unpleasant to think about — so many don’t!

The Big Picture

The final picture of judgment is seen in the “heavenly Gospel” (the Zodiac) in the exact same way it is seen in the written Gospel (the Bible) — as birds of prey, pecking endlessly at that old enemy Satan. It is truly finished!

The Gospel Truth

The final end will be as dreadful as it is glorious. It depends upon the perspective. Those on the receiving end of judgment will find it unbearable in its righteousness and justice. Those on the receiving end of grace will find it nearly unbearable, too! But for a different reason! For we will be rejoicing in the goodness of God and the great assurance that everything has been made right, finally! This rejoicing can be for anyone who will receive by faith the grace of God through His Son, Jesus Christ.

The Star Names

Pay careful attention to the meanings of the names of the stars. They will ALWAYS back up the message above.

LEO (Ltn) “the raven”; Oreb (Arb) “the raven”; Her-na (Egy) “Breaking up, failing”; Al Chibar (Arb) “joining together”; Chiba (Hbr) “accursed”; Al Goreb (Arb) “the raven”; Minchar al Gorab (Arb) “the raven tearing to pieces”
